McAuley scores v Chelsea – Healy on target

November 4, 2007

Gareth McAuley scored the opener for Leicester against Chelsea in the week in the league cup. His team led 3-2 with 16 minutes left but Chelsea went on to win 4-3.

David Healy got an assist in Fulham’s 3-1 win over Reading this afternoon, and then followed it up with his first goal since mid-August.

Healy denied 3 in 3

August 18, 2007

A linesman has denied David Healy his third goal in three games for Fulham. Fulham were trailing 2-1 to Middlesborough when Healy appeared to have given them the equaliser, but despite the ball being ‘clearly over the line’, even in the words of to the BBC interviewer talking to LS, it was ruled out. It is sure to make frustrating viewing on MOTD later on.
Last Saturday, Healy took just 50 seconds of his Premiership debut to score his first goal, chasing down Lehmann as Sanchez had advised him to and putting the ball in the net when the Arsenal keeper duly blundered:

Edit: Video removed – you can see it here

However, 2 goals in the last 6 minutes gave the home side the win.
Then, on Wednesday, Fulham beat Bolton 2-1 at the Cottage, with Healy scoring after 23 minutes.

Baird and Davis have also started all Fulham’s games so far, while Aaron Hughes is, of course, still injured.

And Healy’s the 4th

July 13, 2007

In a move that will surprise no-one, Sir David Healy has signed a 4 year deal at Fulham for £1.5 Million.

Healy: “Obviously I know Lawrie Sanchez well and through his time as manager of Northern Ireland he has given me a lot of support, so I am really looking forward to playing under him in the Premier League.”
LS: “David has showcased his striking pedigree at the highest level with Northern Ireland in recent years, and I have every confidence that he will produce the same form for Fulham.”

Healy out of Wales match

February 1, 2007

David Healy’s scan, which I mentioned yesterday, revealed that he has broken an elbow bone, and will be out of action for about 3 weeks. It will only be about the 2nd (maybe 3rd?) international Healy has missed since his debut. It obviously leaves Lawrie Sanchez with an interesting decision about who to play up front. Laffs and the in-form Sproule maybe?

Leeds manager Dennis Wise is Not Happy about Lawrie’s public amazement that no-one has yet signed David Healy in the transfer window. He said: “I’m fed up with him opening his mouth. I want David at this football club.”
Healy is to undergo a scan today to see whether the arm he hurt in his last match for Leeds is broken. If so, it would obviously rule him out of the Wales match.

Goals and suchlike

January 2, 2007

– Healy scored 1 and set up 1 for Leeds as they beat Coventry 2-1 yesterday.

– Nottingham Forest are appealing against Sammy Clingan’s straight red card after 20 minutes of their 5-0 defeat to Oldham on New Years’ Day for an accidental collision.
– Chris Brunt scored his 8th goal of the season in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday :-P

– Young left back Jeff Hughes has scored the winner in Lincoln’s last 2 games: 2-1 over Boston and 1-0 against Wycombe.

Lincoln skipper Northern Irishman Paul Morgan made his 200th league appearance for the club yesterday afternoon.

– After Collins, John telling us how Ivan Sproule would struggle to get back into the Hibs team after his 4-game suspension, Ivan started their 0-0 draw with Aberdeen at Easter Road today, his first possible game back. He seems to still be in a rich vein of form according to the BBC:
“Sproule was clearly relishing his return to the action and was deployed on either flank and was the inspiration of most positive Hibs attacks.”
He was replaced by Dean Shiels, also just back from a (1-game) suspension.

Elliott on himself and Healy

March 30, 2006

From the Yorkshire Post:

“Leeds have a lot of good players, but David will be a particular threat because of his quality. He is a striker who should be playing in the Premiership and I hope he gets there. If Leeds do make it, his goals will have played a big part.
It surprises me that he has been on the bench so many times this season for Leeds because he has to be one of the very best strikers in the division.
Everyone in Northern Ireland loves David – and not just because of his winning goal against England last September, though it means he will probably never have to buy a drink ever again back home. He has scored almost a goal every two games for his country and that says it all.
David is such a quiet man and a true gent. Scoring the winner against England might have changed some people, but not him.
Even if he does not score, you can guarantee he will have worked as hard as anyone in a game with all the tracking back he does.”

Healy, who boasts 19 international goals in 46 games, could, if Kevin Blackwell reverts to the 4-3-3 formation he has favoured for much of the campaign, be in direct competition with Elliott on Saturday and the Hull winger is relishing the possibility:
He said: “When we played Leeds at Elland Road in December, it was the first time we had played against each other in a game so it was a shame David only came on as a late substitute. Hopefully, we will both be selected this weekend.”
Healy has started Leeds’s last two games, but Robbie Blake is pushing for a recall at the KC Stadium as Blackwell’s side look to complete the double over Hull.
The Tigers are, however, determined to avenge their 2-0 defeat at Elland Road in front of a sell-out crowd at the KC Stadium. Elliott added: “I felt we were every bit as good as Leeds in the first half, but that they probably bossed it after half-time, to win 2-0.
“Personally speaking, my season has not gone as well as I hoped. Where last year (when Elliott scored 27 league goals), everything I hit went in the back of the net, this time the ball has hit the crossbar or the goalkeeper has tipped it away.
“I am still top scorer [he actually is – with 6 goals!] and it would be nice to manage that again. The priority, though, is staying in the Championship. If we can do that by beating Leeds, it would be amazing.
“This is the game all our fans have really been looking forward to and the atmosphere will be electric. If we were to win, the response from the Hull fans would probably be similar to that in Belfast when we beat England.
“We would probably get the freedom of the city if we can give the fans what they want.”

Injuries and Belgium friendly

February 7, 2006

David Healy and Kyle Lafferty both were had to come off with injuries on Saturday. Lafferty was forced to pull out of the U21 squad as a result, and Healy’s ankle injury means he is a doubt for the Estonia game.
The BBC are reporting that the IFA and the Belgian FA are discussing having a friendly match in Belgium in August.
