Cardiff sign Capaldi

May 25, 2007

Cardiff City have made Northern Ireland defender Tony Capaldi their first signing of the close season. They signed Capaldi from Plymouth Argyle, where he made 122 full appearances, almost all on the left wing, and scored 12 goals.
Cardiff Chairman Peter Ridsdale:
“The signing of Tony is an important one for the club. We had to be clever and move fast to secure his services and fought off some serious competition. We are very pleased that we have managed to make the first signing of our new summer programme.”

Jim rules himself out completely

“I won’t be in the running for the job, full-time or part-time. Lawrie Sanchez has said that the job could be done part-time and he was in a position to know that. It will be down to the Irish FA but even if it is part-time, it won’t be me.
“I have a job to do at Ipswich and it’s one that I am 100 per cent focused on. Getting this Club back in the Premiership is a big enough challenge for me.”
“I was very proud to play for my country and managing Northern Ireland would be a great honour and it’s something I would certainly like to do at some stage in my career,” says the former Northern Ireland skipper who was capped 52 times by his country. “I’ve only been in the management game for a year and have a lot more experience to gain before I can be at that level but one day I’d love the opportunity.

Magilton would only manage NI part-time

May 21, 2007

“I would love to manage N Ireland, but at the minute, if it was full-time, I would have to say no. I do think it could be done on a part-time basis but that would really be for the IFA to decide.”
Someone asked Sammy Mac about it too! No chance like, but he said “How could you turn down your country” and who could disagree!

May 18, 2007

Sheffield United have offered a new contract to 32 year old Northern Ireland winger Keith Gillespie. Blades chairman Terry Robinson made the offer despite the club being managerless:
“We would like to make offers to Chris and Keith and, although the new man might have different ideas, at this stage we felt that we should try and keep them.”

“I’ll be back”

“There is never a good time to go but as I’ve always said I would rather go when the team is on a high than have to leave because the team is doing poorly. Although I leave with a heavy heart I also feel a great sense of achievement and I would like perhaps one day, if the opportunity arises to return and finish the job.”

Lorry resigns

May 11, 2007

Lawrie Sanchez has resigned as Northern Ireland manager to take over full time at Fulham – on an ‘indefinite, rolling contract’.
It’s been an absolutley amazing 3 and a bit years since Lawrie was given the job in January 2004, but temporarily at least his departure leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth after all the “I’ll stay to the end of the campaign stuff”.
But, as someone said on ILF – “I think we both did very well out of this association.”

Shiels assured of future at Hibs

May 9, 2007

Despite speculation linking him with a move away from Hibs, manager John Collins has assured the 22-year old that he has a future at the club.
“Dean hasn’t had a long run in the team because of injuries,” said Collins. “But he is certainly wanted here. I haven’t heard from the manager of any other club and I haven’t phoned any either. Dean’s got two more years on his contract and he is doing very well at the moment, looking sharp and creative.”
Collins added: “Dean’s goal-scoring record is terrific, it must be the best at the club in terms of goals to minutes on the pitch.”
For his part, Shiels says he does not want to leave the club.
“I want to stay at Hibs, that’s all that matters to me,” said the player, who is under contract for another two years. “As long as I am wanted here I will stay.”

He just had to go and do that didn’t he?

Lawrie Sanchez’ Fulham side beat a weakened Liverpool side 1-0 at Craven Cottage this afternoon to earn a vital 3 points in the relegation dogfight, which just about guarantees that come the summer it’ll be “Lawrie Sanchez’ Fulham” permanently.

The last time he beat Liverpool
Well done Lorry at the same time like.
